Rod Slater, founder of Eurocars, is a Self Confessed ‘Maniac’… ‘Car Maniac’ that is!…In January 1957, at age 14, Rod embarked on a career in the Western Australian Automotive Industry . He is a former President and now Honorary Life Member of the Chamber of Automotive Industries and Chair of the Society of Automotive Engineers (Australasia) WA Division and a Member of the Institute of Automotive Mechanical Engineers. He trained to become an Automotive Engineer, and by age 20 was appointed Service Manager of the Renault Distributors in Western Australia, making him the youngest Service Manager of any Automotive Distributor in Australian history. By age 22 he held responsibility as WA State Service Manager for Renault, Mitsubishi and Isuzu motor vehicles, both cars and trucks.
In 1971, at age 28, Rod established Eurocars on the corner of Canning Highway and Berwick Street in South Perth and was appointed the Sole WA Distributor for Renault and Peugeot. Rod next established Eurocars Smash Repairs in Welshpool and then, over the next two decades added Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Bertone, Daihatsu and Citroen franchises.
At the end of the 20th Century Rod sold his new car Franchises and downsized the business, to provide himself time to serve as President of the RAC of Western Australia and also to establish, as inaugural Chairman, the Australian Trades College in Armadale and Maddington, a role he continues to fulfil today.
40 years since establishing Eurocars, Rod has expanded his business enterprise with the establishment of a specialist pre-owned car outlet for the 'Cars of France' at 30 Welshpool Road Welshpool (between NewTown Toyota and Roadbend Jaguar) which will trade as 'French & Fantastic Automobiles' , specializing in pre-loved Renault, Peugeot and Citroen Motor Vehicles.

Why is it that Rod has such faith in French Cars?
Rod is an automotive engineer and a former motor sport competitor, who raced and rallied French Cars exclusively throughout his very successful motor sport career, he says it is due to the strength, engineering, durability, sure-footed-ness and inbuilt safety of these cars that he was able to win two Rally Championships and several other motor racing events and not kill himself in the process, despite some very spectacular high speed ‘incidents’.
In effect Rod has bet both his life and business future on the 'Cars of France' and never once have they let him down, hence he is a devoted admirer of French Automotive design and engineering and seeks to share that joy with other Motorists throughout Western Australia.
